Bruno Barbara, initialement ébéniste, a rejoint l’équipe du chantier du Guip en 1988 pour participer à la construction en bois de bateaux de pêche, de répliques de voiliers de travail, et de La Recouvrance, goélette de chasse du XIXème.

Avant de créer l’entreprise CANDELA à La Rochelle, son parcours a été ponctué par l’embarquement d’un an sur le 3 mâts à huniers Fridtjof Nansen, la formation au Brevet de commandement de navires à voile (BPPV), suivie de trois années de navigation sur des voiliers de tradition, de convoyages transatlantiques, et la formation aux brevets de motoriste à la pêche et de commandement de navires passagers.

Bruno Barbara, initially a cabinetmaker, joined the Guip shipyard in 1988 to work on the construction of wooden fishing boats, replicas of working sail boats and on La Recouvrance, a 19th century fighting schooner.

Prior to setting up the company CANDELA in La Rochelle, he made a change in his career path and “signed on” as part of the crew of the tall ship Fridtjof Nansen for a year, followed by three years sailing transatlantic on traditional sailing boats. During this time he qualified as a sailing shipmaster (BPPV certificate), as an Engineer for maritime fishing navigation and as a Captain on passenger ships.
